about

Showcased at the opening reception of 'Performing X for Y' exhibition at the Diego Rivera Gallery, July 12th 2011, "A Cabaret (Remixed)" is a composite of manipulated audio from video rendered into musical score. On July 10th 2011, fifteen artists were to compose and perform a theater piece for the rest of the artists. All participating performers were to document the other performances using various formats (photography, video, audio, text, voice, drawing, etc) and showcase their documentation in the gallery opening night. Using digital video, I chose to archive these performances by documenting the documentation, recording all formats used by the other performers. Using the found audio from these digital captures, I then composed a piece utilizing every device used to record the performances. "A Cabaret (Remixed)" is a piece constructed to emphasize and illustrate the influence of the 'lens'. This dominating presence of documentation led to a compound theme of influential performance, rendered instrumental, manipulated, and once again performed to leave an imprint of endless iterations to its final audience.
